SSC Scam: ED raids another apartment of ex-Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee's aide

Kolkata: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is raiding another apartment of Arpita Mukherjee, the aide of former West Bengal Minister and Trinamool heavyweight Partha Chatterjee, in connection with the teacher recruitment scam.

Both Partha and Arpita are under ED's custody, following the recovery of over Rs 50 crore in cash, apart from gold and foreign currency.

So far, the federal probe agency has raided four apartments of Arpita Mukherjee, which, according to reports, Partha Chatterjee allegedly used her flats as a mini bank to park illegal money from the teacher recruitment scam.

Currently, the ED is raiding Arpita's fifth apartment, located on the 5th floor of Block 06 of the Fort Oasis apartment complex in Kolkata's Panditiya Road.

Till now, there have been no reports of any recovery and the searches are underway.

On August 2, the ED failed to open the apartment door secured with a lock imported from China.

On Thursday, the sleuths entered the apartment after a locksmith was called and the searches were started.

Chatterjee was the state education minister when the controversial recruitments to the posts of non-teaching and teaching staff of primary and secondary schools were made.

On July 28, he was sacked by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee from all ministerial posts and suspended from Trinamool Congress.

Before his removal, Partha Chatterjee held the Commerce and Industry, Parliamentary Affairs, Information Technology and Electronics, and Public Enterprises and Industrial Reconstruction portfolios in the state Cabinet.
