Supreme Court asks all political parties to submit details of electoral bonds before EC
New Delhi, Apr 12 (IBNS): The Supreme Court on Friday asked all political parties to submit details of electoral bonds before the Election Commission (EC) in a sealed cover by May 30, media reports said.
A three-judge bench, led by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, of the top court was hearing a petition challenging the validity of electoral bonds.
Attorney General KK Venugopal, who had appeared for the Centre, raised question as to why voters would be concerned about the funding in an election.
Political parties can raise money from anywhere they want considering the transaction remains legitimate, Venugopal said before the court.
Disagreeing with Venugopal, CJI Gogoi said the entire exercise to eliminate black money will remain futile if the identity of the donor remains unknown.
