Tamilisai sworn-in as first woman governor of Telangana
Hyderabad, Sept 8 (UNI) Dr Tamilisai Soundarajan was sworn as the first woman Governor of Telangana at Raj Bhavan here on Sunday morning.
Chief Justice of Telangana High Court Raghvendra Singh Chauhan administered the oath of office to her in the presence of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, ministers, top bureaucrats and other dignitaries.
The 58-year-old Soundararajan, who was the former Tamil Nadu BJP Chief and the party’s National Secretary earlier, has taken oath in English.
Dr Soundarajan is the second governor of Telangana and the third women in the history of undivided Andhra Pradesh who took the charge as Governor.
Earlier, Sharada Mukherjee and Kumudben Joshi were appointed as governors of undivided Andra Pradesh.
She succeeded ESL Narasimhan, who demitted office on Saturday after serving as the Governor of the two Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for more than nine years.
Himachal Pradesh Governor-designate Bandaru Dattatreya and Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy and Tamil Nadu ministers Thangumani and Velumani attended the sworn-in ceremony.
Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Paneer Selvan was also present at the ceremony.
