TMC attacks Centre's decision to increase Railway fares
The party said the decision was 'anti-people'.
In a statement, TMC leader Derek O`Brien said: " Is this a Super Rail Budget before Rail Budget? Not bothering about the Parliament. The common man already burdened will be over burdened. Just before elections there was a Rail fare hike. Now another passenger/freight fare hike. Common man will suffer more. This decision is anti-people."
"The prices of essential commodities will now shoot up. Before they came to power, they said acche din aane wale hain (good days are going to come). But now it seems roney wale din aa gaye hain (the time to cry has come)," he said.
With not even a month in office, Narendra Modi government on Friday increased Railway fares with the the passenger fare being hiked by 14.2 percent.
The freight rates have been hiked by 6.5 percent.
New fares will be effective from June 25.
This is the first steep hike in Railway fares in many years.
