New Delhi, Nov 11 (IBNS) Putting an end to India's hunt, Bangladesh has handed over to it top United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) leader Anup Chetia after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention, reports said.

Chetia who is wanted in India for several crimes ranging from murder, extortions and abductions, was arrested by Bangladesh Police in 1997 for cross-border intrusion. He served seven years' jail term in Bangladesh for keeping foreign currencies and fake passports.

According to reports, a Bangladesh High Court ordered the police to keep Chetia in custody until a decision on his asylum plea was taken.

The Indian Government's plea for releasing Chetia stood rejected by Bangladesh for over a decade and the new move happened only after Prime Minister Narenda Modi intervened.

The Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka spent the last two days in Delhi as the move to release Chetia was underway.

This comes days after gangster Chhota Rajan was nabbed in Bali and handed over to the Indian Government by Indonesia.
