Guwahati, June 9 (IBNS): Post-Eid celebrations turned ugly with a group of female tribal dancers forced to dance naked in Assam’s Kamrup district.
The incident took place at Asolpara under Chhaygaon police station in Kamrup district on June 7 night where some local people had organised a dance programme to celebrate Eid.
The organisers had contacted two dance groups of the Boko area in the district for the programme with a contract of Rs 37,000.
When the 42-member dance group, including 7-8 tribal girls reached the area, the people gathered in the programme and organisers were forced to undress the female dancers and make them dance naked.
Around 700 people were at the programme and many had tried to molest the female dancers.
When the situation turned violent, members of the dance group tried to flee. But a mob attacked their vehicle.
Later, police rescued the team.
Arup D Rabha, the director of Rainbow dance group said the experience had been horrible.
“A contact of Rs 37,000 was signed between our two groups and the organiser. When we demanded that they pay us the amount and the expenditure for the vehicle, they wanted naked dance. The people gathered there had pelted stones. They forced the female dancers to undress,” Rabha said.
The dancer group has lodged an FIR and police has registered a case and arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in the incident.
