Tripura declared Covid-19 free state
Agartala/UNI: With the release of second Covid-19 infected patient from GBP hospital here, Tripura has been officially declared ‘Covid Free State’ on Saturday.
He was cured fully two days ago in the hospital but as per protocol, the authorities were waiting to get three subsequent tests Covid-19 negative.
The final Covid-19 test was concluded this afternoon and immediately he was released from the hospital and was taken for institutional quarantine for 14 days in Kanchanpur in North Tripura, health officials said here.
Tripura had reported only two Covid-19 patients and both of them had travelled in Anand Vihar Tripura Sundari Express in the same compartment and reached on March 18 last.
The first Covid-19 positive case in Tripura was believed to be detected on April 6, after 18 days of getting infected at Udaipur in Gomati district. The 45-year-old housewife had travelled in Tripura Sundari express from Guwahati. She had developed symptoms after a week and went to the local hospital but Covid-19 was not tested there.
Later, she was found positive when tested in a Covid-19 hospital.
She was released and sent to mandatory quarantine on April 15 last and she has not developed new infection.
A 32-year-old old jawan of the 13th battalion of Tripura State Rifles, who travelled from Meerut of Uttar Pradesh with the first case and got down in North Tripura on April 18, was found positive on April 10 last at his camp in Kanchanpur.
Though he had developed symptoms like cough and cold two days after but recovered after getting treatment for common cold.
However, Covid surveillance team tested him Covid-19 based on the contact tracing of the first patient.
Apparently, he was asymptomatic when tested, but viral load was quite high in his body and consequently brought under medication, said doctors in GBP hospital who treated him.
Based on the contact of both the patients, over 132 samples were tested along with the suspected cases of more than 4000 in the last three weeks but all of them were found negative.
He was seen off by doctors, nurses, paramedics of GBP hospital this afternoon.
Soon, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb tweeted, “I thank all the frontline warriors for making our state Corona free. The fight is not yet over. I urge everyone to follow the government guidelines. Stay home, stay safe.”
