New Delhi/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday held a virtual meeting with US President Joe Biden on the Ukraine crisis and emphasised the role of India in resolving the conflict adding that he hopes that the "ongoing talks between Russia and Ukraine will pave the way for peace".

PM Modi said he held talks with both Ukraine and Russian Presidents to resolve the crisis through peaceful means.

"We have also placed importance on the safety of the civilian population in Ukraine and the uninterrupted supply of humanitarian aid to them... Recently, the news of the killings of innocent civilians in Bucha city was very worrying. We immediately condemned it and demanded a fair investigation," the Indian PM said.

"When I came to Washington in September last year, you said that India-US partnership can contribute to the solution of many global problems. I completely agree with you. As the world's two largest and oldest democracies, we are natural partners," he told President Biden.

Modi also informed the US President that India has sent relief materials and medicines to war-hit Ukraine and the neighbouring country to combat the crisis.

The leaders’ virtual interaction preceded the fourth India-US 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue which will be led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Minister of External Affairs S. Jaishankar on the Indian side and their US counterparts, Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin and Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
