Union Employment minister blames "unemployability" for joblessness; draws flak from Priyanka
New Delhi, Sep 15 (IBNS) Minister of State for Labour and Employment Santosh Gangwar on Sunday blamed "unemployability" behind the rising joblessness in the country.
The Union minister claimed that there was no dearth of employment, but lack of qualified people to do those jobs.
"There are enough jobs in the country. Recruitment officials, who go to North India, often complain about the lack of qualified professionals for the jobs they want to recruit people," he said addressing a press conference here.
Gangwar's comment came at a time when the country was grappling with economic slowdown and there had been massive job cuts across industries.
Congress General Secretary (UP East) Priyanka Gandhi Vadra reacted sharply at Gangwar's comment. Hitting out at the Modi government she termed the Union minister's comment "insulting" and blamed the Centre for the unemployment across sectors due to economic slowdown.
"Modi government is now more than 5 years old. Jobs have not been created. The jobs that were there have been lost due to the economic recession brought by the government. Young people are looking at the way that the government should do something good. You want to escape by insulting the North Indians. It will not work," the Congress leader tweeted.
Earlier in May, the Centre had rejected a National Sample Survey(NSSO) job survey(2017-18) report which revealed an unprecedented unemployment rate of over 6 per cent, claiming the rise in figures was due to adoption of a new design methodology, and should not be compared with the past figures.
