UP crisis: Akhilesh writes to Power Minister
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government on Friday slammed the Samajwadi Party-led Uttar Pradesh government over the power crisis issue.
"I urge the UP chief minister (Akhilesh Yadav) to rise over petty politics and stop making excuses and blaming others for the power crisis in the state," said Power Minister Piyush Goyal.
"There is no power shortage. Only one state-run plant has failed which should be restored in 24 hours," he said.
In a statement on Thursday, Akhilesh Yadav had said, "The CM is taking enough steps to normalise the power crisis in the state. UP is only getting 4200 MW instead of 6002 MW from the Centre. The state should get enough amount of electricity from the Centre. Due to less supply of coal from Coal India, power crisis is growing in the state."
Post May 16, when the Lok Sabha election results were declared, the state is experiencing frequent power cuts that are lasting for over 10 hours a day.
Pertinently, in a major blow to the ruling Samajwadi Party, the BJP won 73 of 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh.
