Ballia, UP, May 1 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched free cooking gas scheme in Ballia in Uttar Pradesh.
The scheme will provide free LPG connections to five crore women belonging to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families between 2016 and 2019.

Speaking at the launch, PM Modi said: "This scheme launched today will benefit poor families and particularly poor women."

He said the Government of India is working a lot and allocating tremendous resources for the development of Uttar Pradesh.

At Ballia, Modi also pledged to keep the Ganga clean.

"Let us pledge that we will never dirty the Ganga. Once we decide the Ganga will remain clean, no force can dirty it," said he.

He said schemes must be made for the welfare of the poor not keeping in mind considerations of the ballot box. "People need schooling and jobs," added the PM.

Modi claimed: "We have shown how the petroleum sector is for the poor."

Starting his speech, Modi said: "This land of Ballia is a revolutionary land. This land gave us Mangal Pandey. People from here give their lives to the nation."

"We have gathered here on Labour Day. I laud the hardwork of all Shramiks & appreciate their role in the progress of India," he said.

Modi said this is a Government for the poor. "Whatever we will do will be for the poor," said he.

"We have worked a lot on labour related issues. We initiated a Shram Suvidha Portal that has helped the Shramiks of the nation. A labour identity number was given," said he.

Listing down the works done by his government, Modi said: "Connectivity in this region, rail lines, bridges...these issues were ignored but I congratulate all local MPs for ensuring this changes."

The Prime Minister said that fruits of development have to reach the eastern part of India adding : "then we will gain strength in the fight against poverty."

Later in the day, Modi will distribute e-rickshaws and interact with beneficiaries in Varanasi.

He will also launch a scheme for "environmentally friendly" e-boats at Assi Ghat.

"The e-boats will also bring down operational costs thus ensuring higher incomes for those who earn their livelihoods through such boats," Modi tweeted earlier in the day.
