Washington, Oct 1 (IBNS): A prominent US congressman termed the Uri attack in India by Pakistan based terrorists as a horrific incident while another said America is standing with India and its decision to launch sugical strike to destroy terrorist camps across the Kashmir border.

"Uri attack against India was horrific; prayers are w/victims’ families. I will cnte [continue] to follow India’s subsequent counter terrorism op closely, Congressman Steny Hoyer, Democratic Whip in the US House of Representatives tweeted on Friday.

Another Senator from Arizona Jeff Flake posted: "Condolences to the victims of last week's terrorist attack on the Indian Army base in Kashmir. We stand with #India fighting terrorism."

Pete Olson, another Congressman, tweeted: "Our sympathy and support go out to India as they work to counter the terrorism they faced in the Uri Attack."

Amid mass anger in India over the Uri attack in Kashmir in which several Indian soldiers were killed by Pakistani terrorists, India on Wednesday past midnight carried out surgical strikes crossing the Line of Control (LoC) into Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, targeting terrorist launchpads working from within the neighbouring country.

The series of incidents beginning with the Uri attack, tensions between two nuclear armed neighbours escalated in the past weeks.

Two Pakistani soldiers were reportedly killed. Pakistan denied that there were surgical attacks calling India's claims as "fabrication of truth" but Pak PM Nawak Sharif warned India against any aggression.

Indian Army said it "conducted surgical strikes at several of these launch pads to pre-empt infiltration by terrorists."
