Uttar Pradesh : Akhilesh Yadav rejects uncle Shivpal's resignation

Lucknow, Sept 16 (IBNS) : In what appeared to be a truce brokered at the intervention of Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Friday rejected uncle Shivpal's resignation after days of uncertainty in Uttar Prdesh following a family feud.

Reports said both Akhilesh and Shivpal  had earlier met Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Before meeting with Mulayam Singh, Shivpal,  who was earlier stripped of key ministerial posts by nephew Akhilesh, addressed his supporters, who flocked in front of his house.

He gave a short speech vouching his loyalty to 'Netaji', Mulayam Singh Yadav, the undisputed chief of the party.

His supporters, wearing Shivpal Yadav T-shirts, raised slogans declaring they are with him. They also shouted slogans against Ram Gopal, another brother in the Yadav family, who is known to be close to Akhilesh.

On Thursday evening, after a meeting with Akhilesh Yadav, Shivpal Yadav resigned both as a Minister and a party functionary.

One of his resignation letters was addressed to Akhilesh Yadav and the other to Mulayam Singh.

The development was seen as a counter move of Shivpal, who was divested of the key ministerial posts  last week hours after Mulayam Singh appointed him the  party's Uttar Pradesh President replacing his son, Akhilesh.

Uttar Pradesh goes to Assembly polls early next year.
