Uttar Pradesh elections will decide future of India: Amit Shah
New Delhi/UNI: The upcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly polls are not just for electing MLAs or Chief Minister of the state but also to decide the future of the country, Union Home Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) top leader Amit Shah said on Thursday.
Addressing voters in Mathura of Uttar Pradesh, the Home Minister mentioned Ram temple in Ayodhya, and the Kashi Vishwanath Dham corridor, abrogation of Article 370, as he also mentioned government schemes like Ujjwala.
Shah stressed that law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh has improved under the BJP government.
"This election is not just to choose a MLA, or Chief Minister... The UP election is the election which will decide India's future," Shah said.
Shah said voters in the Braj area of Uttar Pradesh have supported BJP in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, 2017 state polls, and also the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
Shah appealed to the voters to support the party again to continue the development work being done in the state.
"UP is the biggest state in India, over 22 crore voters are there. If this state is not developed, India will lag behind," Shah said.
"This election will tell with which party or ideology UP will go with. The state has seen SP, BSP governments. SP would work for one community, BSP would work for another.. For the first time, overall development of UP has been done," Shah said.
He also talked about the Ram temple, and said, "If Modi govt was not there, would the Ram Temple have been constructed? Could the Kashi VIshwanath Dham have been redeveloped?"
"It is the BJP government which did not care about vote bank and restored glory of centers of faith," he said.
Shah also invited Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav to come to the Ram temple.
"Akhilesh used to say 'Mandir wahi banayenge, magar tithi nahi batayenge'. Now bhoomi pujan has been done, you are also invited, you should also come," he said.
"BJP always demanded abrogation of Article 370, the whole nation agreed on it. No one touched it because of vote bank politics. You voted for Modi government and article 370 was abrogated... Kashmir is now an inseparable part of India," he said.
"Modi government has been in Centre for over seven and half years, even Rahul Gandhi cannot say there has been corruption. Yogi government has been here for five years, bundles of notes come out from people linked with Akhilesh Yadav, but there is no charge of corruption against government," Shah said.
He urged the voters to support the party in the upcoming elections.
Shah was accompanied by party candidates from the area.
The elections in Uttar Pradesh will take place on Feb 10, 14 , 20, 23, 27, Mar 3 and 7.
