Uttar Pradesh: Situation under control in Gorakhpur, 22 under custody

Gorakhpur/IBNS: After a day of violent protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) rocked Kotwali and Rajghat police station areas in Uttar Pradesh,  cops have taken 22 persons under custody and registered case against three persons. 

Police have claimed that situation was under control and tranquility was maintained.

Deputy superintendent of police BP Singh here on Saturday said that police and PAC jawans conducted flag march and appealed for peace and harmony. 
He said that crowd in markets and at roads were like normal days and any untoward situation was not reported.

Police have identified 50 perpetrators on grounds of video footage and cases were registered against three in Kotwali police station. Meanwhile responsible citizens, senior police officers and public organization offered rose to maintain peace and harmony.  

Uttar Pradesh witnessed massive protests over the new citizenship law this week.
