New Delhi: Indian President Ram Nath Kovind on Sunday said he is deeply worried by the glacier burst incident near Joshimath region of Uttarakhand.

"Deeply worried about the glacier burst near Joshimath, Uttarakhand, that caused destruction in the region. Praying for well being and safety of people. Am confident that rescue and relief operations on ground are progressing well," President of India Ram Nath Kovind tweeted.

At least 50 people are feared dead or washed away as a massive glacier receded in Reni village of Uttarakhand's Chamoli district on Sunday, leaving a trail of destruction in the area.

Reports received here said that the Rishiganga Power Project has been completely damaged as the water level in the Alaknanda river rose several feet due to flash floods caused by the breaking of the glacier.
