Vice President condoles demise of Suvra Mukherjee

New Delhi, Aug 18 (IBNS): Vice President of India M. Hamid Ansari on Tuesday deeply condoled the demise of President Pranab Mukherjee's wife Suvra Mukherjee

In his condolence message, he has said that in this hour of grief he joins the nation in offering deepest condolence to the President and the bereaved family members.

"May the Almighty grant peace to departed soul," he said.

Suvra Mukherjee breathed her last in Army hospital on Tuesday morning.

"It is informed with deep sorrow that First Lady, Mrs Suvra Mukherjee passed away this morning at 1051 am," the Rashtrapati Bhavan tweeted.

The Indian First Lady, Suvra Mukherjee, suffered a cardiac arrest on Aug 7 and was admitted to ICU of Army Hospital (R&R) same day.

Suvra Mukherjee was born on Sept 17, 1940 in Jessore and married Pranab Mukherjee on July 13, 1957.

She was a vocalist of Rabindra Sangeet and founded the ‘Geetanjali Troupe’.
