Vice President Naidu to visit to Serbia, Malta and Romania

New Delhi, Sept 14 (IBNS): Vice President of India M Venkaiah Naidu will be on a official Visit to Serbia, Malta and Romania from 14-20 September 2018, the MEA said in a statement.

The Vice President will be accompanied by Shiv Pratap Shukla, Minister of State in Ministry of Finance, three Members of Parliament from Rajya Sabha- Prasanna Acharya, Vijila Sathyananth, Saroj Pandey and one Member of Parliament from Lok Sabha- Raghav Lakhanpal and other officials.

On the first leg of his three-nation tour, the Vice President will visit Serbia from 14-16 September 2018 at the invitation of the President of Serbia,  Aleksander Vucic. Aleksandar Vucic had visited India in his capacity as the Prime Minister of Serbia, in January 2017, to participate in the Vibrant Gujarat Summit. India and Serbia have historic and special relations as co-founders of the Non-Aligned Movement. Both countries support each other on issues of core interest.

This year, India and Serbia are also celebrating 70 years of establishment of diplomatic relations. Bilateral trade between India and Serbia stands at approx USD 200 million.

During the visit, the Vice President will have a meeting with President Aleksander Vucic, who will host a Banquet in the honour of the Vice President.

There will be separate meeting of Vice President with Maja Gojkovic, Speaker of the National Assembly of Serbia and Ana Brnabic, Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia will host a lunch for the Vice President.
The Vice President will lay a Wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

The Vice President will address of the Special Session of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.

He will also address the business representatives of India and Serbia at a Business Forum and interact with the Indian community during the visit.

The Vice president will visit Malta from 16-18 September, 2018 at the invitation of the President of Malta, Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca.

India was one of the first countries to recognize Malta in 1964 and established diplomatic relations soon after the independence of Malta.

During the visit, the Vice President will have a meeting with President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, who will host a Banquet in the honour of the Vice President.

There will be separate meeting of Vice President with Dr. Angelo Farrugia, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Parliament of Malta and   Evarist Bartolo, Acting Prime Minister of Malta.

The Vice President will address the business representatives of India and Malta at a Business Forum and the Indian community during the visit.

The Vice President will visit Romania from 18-20 September 2018 at the invitation of the H.E. Calin Popescu-Tariceanu, President of the Senate of Romania. India and Romania share deep historical and cultural linkages- Romanian philologist, philosophers and poets were influenced by their encounter with Indian thought, and this found reflection in their works.
Rabindranath Tagore visited Romania in 1926 and was conferred a doctorate Honoris Causa from the University of Bucharest. In modern times, Diplomatic relations with Romania were established in 1948.

There have been regular exchanges of high level and Ministerial visits on both sides. India-Romania annual bilateral trade stands at USD 810 million.

During the visit, the Vice President will have a meeting with the President of the Senate who will also host a Banquet Lunch for Vice President in the afternoon. Vice President will also have meetings with Romanian President, with Romanian Prime Minister and with President of the Chamber of Deputies.

Vice President will address the business representatives of India and Romania at a Business Forum and the Indian community during the visit.
