Video of woman's public assault in West Bengal goes viral, Oppn claims assailant is Trinamool strongman

Chopra, West Bengal/IBNS: A video clip of a woman being beaten up mercilessly along with another man in an instance of what seemed like a "kangaroo court justice" by an alleged Trinamool Congress strongman in North Dinajpur district of West Bengal has gone viral, triggering an outrage with the Opposition launching a blistering attack on the Mamata Banerjee government.

The incident occurred in Lakshmipur area of Chopra block in North Dinajpur where the woman was beaten up by a man in public as a crowd that gathered watched the assault without protest.

The incident reportedly occurred at an "arbitration meeting" and the opposition BJP and the Left alleged that the assailant is local strongman named Tajemul who has Trinamool Congress connections and is known for such acts with impunity.

Instead of involving police the Trinamool Congress strongman reportedly decided to serve "instant justice" and beat up the woman mercilessly kicking her and pulling her by her hair. While the woman screamed for help, no one came forward to rescue her.

The perpetrator also attacked a man along with the woman as he beat up both with a stick. The cause of the assault is not yet known.

"This is the ugly face of Mamata Banerjee’s rule in West Bengal. The guy in the video, who is beating up a woman mercilessly, is Tajemul (popular as JCB in the area). He is famous for giving quick justice through his ‘insaf’ [justice] sabha and is a close associate of Chopra MLA Hamidur Rahaman," claimed BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya.

"India must wake up to the reality of Sharia Courts in TMC run West Bengal. There is a #Sandeshkhali in every village and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is a curse for women. There is no semblance of law and order in Bengal. Will Mamata Banerjee act against this monster or defend him like she stood up for Sheikh Shahjahan?" he asked.

West Bengal CPI-M state secretary Md Salim posting the video on X said: "Not even #KangarooCourt ! Summary trial and punishment handed out by d ⁦
@AITCofficial
⁩ goon nicknamed JCB. Literally bulldozer justice at Chopra under ⁦
@MamataOfficial
⁩ rule."

The incident reportedly occurred over the weekend. The video has not been verified by IBNS.

The BJP earlier  alleged that a Muslim woman was stripped and beaten in Coochbehar district of West Bengal for supporting their party.

BJP IT Cell Head Amit Malviya identified the woman as Rosonara Khatun. He said she is a member of the party's minority Morcha.

"A Muslim woman was stripped and beaten in West Bengal’s Coochbehar, for supporting the BJP. The incident took place at Ramthenga Market in the Mathabhanga Assembly of Coochbehar district. Rosonara Khatun, a member of the BJP's Minority Morcha, was dragged by her hair and subjected to severe physical assault," Malviya posted on X.

Media reports quoted local police saying they have registered a case and are on the lookout for the accused.
