Vijay Goel inaugurates 'Celebrating North East' festival in Delhi

New Delhi, Dec 18 (IBNS): To create an interaction of ideas, provide an international marketing platform and showcase North East India's Textiles and Handicrafts together with North East Institute of Fashion Technology (NEIFT) along with CARE LUIT organised a mega two day festival comprising of fashion shows, cultural program, musical shows and exhibitions of handloom, handicrafts, jute and MSME sector of the North East Region.

The mega fest ‘Celebrating North East’ was inaugurated at the most happening entertainment centre of the capital – DLF Place, Saket on Saturday. Vijay Goel, Minister of State (I/C) for Youth Affairs and Sports was present as the chief guest.

The festival is supported by Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Textiles, Ministry of MSME, Ministry of AYUSH, ARTFED, many PSUs, and is being held in association with DLF Place.

The festival acted as a curtain raiser to showcase the talents of designers, performing artists, artisans, craftsmen, weavers of the versatile North-east region. People of the capital got an opportunity to interact with these wonderful, talented young entrepreneurs and visionaries.

The two-day affair featured twelve fashion shows highlighting handloom and handicrafts ensemble by talented designers from NER like Arita Kayshab, Pallavi Deka, Pranami Kalita, Barsha Phukan, Ayn Longkumer, Yura Mary, Robert Naorem, Jyoti Kashmiri, Nandini Protim, Jahnabi Swargiyari, Rinzing Choden and Achunbo Chawang, and their ensembles were displayed by twenty-eight international and Indian mega models with North East India’s well known faces from the modeling world.  
     
Talented musicians and bands from the region like Retrosonic, Trouble Clef, Kelly Jorden, Edwin, Sparsh, Sushil, MC Saini, Lena, MAB etc created a musical journey at the venue.

Popular Assamese Film Actor Tanvi Sarma enthralled the audience with her Bihu performance on the inaugural day.

The event director, Vikram Rai Medhi informed that thirty stalls were erected at DLF Place creating a mini North East for entire cross-section of the society of Delhi.

This will create an element of positive awareness and curiosity for North-east region which will thereby also play a role in the development of the Tourism sector.

He appealed to all culture loving people of Delhi along with the print and electronic media to wholeheartedly support this humble and sincere effort to bring NER closer to people of Delhi.
