WB minister's son-in-law held for assaulting EC officials
Malda, Apr 11 (IBNS): The West Bengal Police has arrested Soumyadeep Sarkar, who is the son-in-law of state minister Sabitri Mitra, for allegedly assaulting some Election Commission (EC) officials in Malda district on Thursday, said reports.
This comes after Election Commission (EC) had directed the West Bengal Director General of Police (DGP) to arrest all those involved in attack on its officials engaged in poll duty at Malda.
The police also arrested Trinamool Congress (TMC) activists Mukuleshwar Rahman, Motiyur Rahman and Jamal Khan in the case.
The cops have arrested a total of seven people so far, reports said.
On Thursday, the TMC workers had taken out a two-wheeler rally at Manikchak area in Malda Dakshin constituency, which was against EC rules. The officers reportedly tried to stop them and take photos of the rally as a proof to be submitted at the EC.
However, TMC workers manhandled them and even destroyed their cameras, said reports.
