WB: Mishra begins new innings as state secretary of CPI-M
The 4-day-long 24th state conference of CPI-M Bengal unit ended on Friday.
After the death of party leader Anil Biswas, Biman Basu was appointed as the state secretary of CPI-M on Mar 31 in 2006.
Basu was handling the post for the past nine years.
At the state conference here, he wished to step down from the post and proposed the name of Mishra as his successor to the state secretary designation.
Former chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya also supported Basu's proposal.
On Friday afternoon, CPI-M leader Sitaram Yechury officially announced the name of Mishra as the new WB state secretary of the CPI-M.
Basu said,"All decisions in my time were taken collectively and the works of the communists will never end. Works should be continued."
After getting the new responsibility, Mishra said that he would try hard to progress the works of this party.
"Getting this post is not a matter of joy. This is a matter of new duty and responsibility. My predecessors worked very hard in this post and dealt with very tough situations. I think this time is not harder than that and I don't want to compare myself with the previous state secretaries," he said.
When was asked about the raid of anti corruption branch at his wife's NGO, he said that they were not giving any importance to the matter.
"We are habituated to such things. Our comrades are attacked and killed, in this scenario, my wife's NGO incident is a very small matter," Mishra said.
CPI-M also announced its newly elected WB state committee of 81 members. There are 21 new faces (aged between 40 to 50) in this committee where 18 members are aged under 30.
CPI-M also formed a specially invited committee of 11 members.
Mishra said that they had adopted five new programmes during the conference and their main slogan was 'Defeat Trinamool Congress to save West Bengal and defeat Bharatiya Janata Party to save the country'.
"Fighting against TMC and communal BJP is our main goal," he added.
From Friday, Biman Basu will hold the post of the Left Front's chairman.
