We are making arrangements to send back migrants to their homes: Arvind Kejriwal
New Delhi/UNI: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday assured migrants in Delhi that his government is making arrangements for them to take migrant workers back to their homes.
Addressing a digital press conference, the CM said that the Delhi government is already in talks with the central government to arrange for more trains for all the states.
He also requested the people to stay where they are and that the Delhi government will take care of them.
"Migrant labourers are still on the roads, trying to get to their homes. Their condition is very unfortunate since they are walking for days. They have not eaten anything for days, and nobody is helping them on their way. They are carrying their children on their shoulders, and I also saw a man who was carrying his old mother on him. This makes me feel that all the governments and all the systems have failed. I want to say to the people of Delhi, that you do not need to worry. We will ensure proper arrangements for all the people from other states in Delhi who want to go back,” Kejriwal said.
The CM said it is very disappointing to see people walking on the roads for days without food and any help.
He requested the people of Delhi to stay where they are as the lockdown will lift soon and everything will revive.
"This lockdown is going to end soon, and everything will be back on track. You will get employed again because everything will start running again. Please do not leave Delhi. But if you are stuck here and want to leave under any situation, we are arranging for trains for you. One train has departed for Madhya Pradesh and the second one for Bihar. We are also in talks with the central government to arrange for more trains. Please wait for a few days, but please do not walk towards your homes like this. This is not safe. Some people lost their lives on the railway tracks, and some lost their lives in a road accident. Please do not do anything that puts your lives at risk. We are here to take care of you,” he said.
The Delhi government is continuously taking action to send the stranded migrants to their native states. In Delhi, 150 migrants from Punjab stranded in Delhi have been sent to their homes by the Delhi government on Sunday on buses.
A tweet on behalf of the CMO said, "Migrants from Punjab living in Delhi govt's temporary shelter at Sarvodaya Vidyalaya, Nehru Vihar left for their home towns today morning. They were screened by our medical team and provided with food, masks and sanitizer. God bless them all."
The medical team first screened and examined all the migrants. The migrants have been given food packets for their way. They have also been provided with masks and sanitizers.
Earlier, the Delhi government had sent buses to bring back hundreds of students stranded in Kota. The Delhi government has also sent about 2400 migrants from Madhya Pradesh and Bihar to their home towns through special trains. Medical examination and screening were thoroughly conducted before sending them back.
