We are not love jihad people: Jignesh Mevani says in Delhi rally
New Delhi, Jan 9 (IBNS): Dalit leader and Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani came down to New Delhi, defying police orders, to address the Youth Hunkar Rally where he targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said he does not believe in 'love jihad' but follows the policy of 'pyar, ishq and mohabbat'.
"We are not love jidad people. We believe in pyar, ishq and mohabbat (love)," he said amid cheering crowds who had gathered at the venue to hear the Gujarat youth leader.
Mevani said he knows how to speak the language of 'love'.
"Today, the people are seeing that how an elected representative of the nation does not have the right to speak here today. He just wants to speak about the problem of the society here today. He wants to see youth of the nation getting jobs," Mevani said targeting the Centre and the BJP.
Delhi Police had not given permission to the rally.
"I am asking a question today, when will 2 crore youth of the nation get jobs," he said.
Attacking the Centre, Mevani said: "The country is passing through a turmoil today. We want to protect the constitution and this democracy of the nation."
Amid tight security, Mevani's Youth Hunkar rally took place n New Delhi's Connaught Place, barely few kilometre away from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's official residence in the national capital.
Jignesh, who has been accused of incing caste tension in Maharashtra, on Friday said the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have tried to tarnish his image due to the fear of set back in 2019 Lok Sabha election.
The Dalit leader has been accused of inciting mob in Bhima Koregaon, Pune, which later spread to the entire Maharashtra.
Jignesh, who defeated his BJP rival in the recently concluded Gujarat poll, said he had no role in the Dalit unrest in Maharashtra. He made it clear that neither he was present in Bhima Koregaon where the unrest took place nor participated in the bandh called by several Dalit groups in Maharashtra.
Jigenesh also said his speeches are available on digital platform.
The Dalit leader finely linked the actions taken against him to the tough battle BJP had to fight in the Gujarat poll, where the saffron party's dream of winning 150 seats was restricted to just 99.
Jignesh won his Vadnam seat of Gujarat as an independent candidate with the support of Congress.
