We are very happy today after Mukul Roy left TMC: Partha Chatterjee

Kolkata, Oct 11 (IBNS): The Trinamool Congress on Wednesday said the party is happy that former Railway Minister Mukul Roy has quit the party.

"Mukul Roy is saying baseless words. We don't give any value to his words.  We are very happy today after Mukul left TMC. We can sleep peacefully tonight," West Bengal Minister and TMC leader Partha Chatterjee told media.

Chatterjee said that Roy left the TMC as he was trying to develop relationship with the ruling BJP.

"He left TMC as he is trying to develop relationship with BJP to save himself from CBI," Roy said.

"None is servant here. Every member is our colleague. Our leader and role model is one person, she is Mamata Banerjee," he said.

Former Railway Minister Mukul Roy on Wednesday announced his decision of resigning as the Rajya Sabha MP but said that he will speak about his next political move after Diwali.

Roy was suspended by the TMC last month.

"After Diwali, I'll announce my next step and the future of my political career," he said.

Roy said: "After Diwali, I'll announce my next step and the future of my political career."

The former Union Minister said he will not be able to work in the TMC 'silently like other leaders'.

"Mamata of course is a leader, but we are not servants," he said.

He said: "Decided 6 months ago, took time and today finally quiting TMC."

"I can't stay with TMC silently like other leaders. I have no option except leaving one-man party," he said.

The Trinamool Congress in September suspended former Railway Minister Mukul Roy for six years for 'anti party activities'.

Roy, one of the founding leaders of the Trinamool Congress, had long been regarded the second-in-command of the party after Mamata Banerjee and the architect of TMC's organisational and electoral success in the state.

However, he fell from the grace of Banerjee following his interrogation by the CBI in connection with the multi-crore Sarada chit fund scam.
