West Bengal: BJP marches to Mamata Banerjee's office, meets with lathicharge, teargas

Kolkata/IBNS: The West Bengal Police resorted to lathicharge and also opened tear gas to disperse the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and workers who were on Thursday marching towards the state secretariat Nabanna, which houses Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's office.

BJP MPs Arjun Singh and Locket Chatterjee were seen angry at the police for lathicharging the saffron leaders.

As many as four rallies have been taken out by the BJP with the demands to conduct various examinations for state government jobs, in a bid to address the youth of the state.

Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) and BJP MP, Tejasvi Surya, who landed at the Kolkata airport late last night, is leading one of the rallies from Howrah Maidan.

After denying permission for the rally citing Covid-19 situation, the Mamata Banerjee government last evening stated Nabanna will be shut for two days from Thursday for sanitisation purpose, partially turning the BJP's rallies mellow.

The government's decision to shut down the state secretariat has drawn ire from the BJP which has stated Banerjee is scared of the saffron brigade.

Countering the BJP, TMC MP Saugata Roy told a news channel, "Mamata Banerjee would be the last person to be afraid of the BJP."
