West Bengal: BJP supporter found hanging in Purulia, threat letter recovered near body
Purulia, May 30 (IBNS): A 19-year-old BJP activist, who went missing since Tuesday evening, was found hanging from a tree inside a jungle at Supurdi village under Balarampur Police Station limits in Purulia district of West Bengal on Wednesday, reports said.
According to reports, locals noticed the body of Trilochon Mahato in the morning and called in the police.
Eyewitnesses said that it was written in Bengali on the youth's t-shirt- "BJP politics at the age of just 18 years".
"A threat letter was also found near the body where it was written in Bengali- BJP politics at just 18! Today your life ends," an eyewitness told IBNS.
Condemning of the incident, BJP president Amit Shah tweeted, "Deeply hurt by the brutal killing of our young karyakarta, Trilochan Mahato in Balarampur,West Bengal. A young life full of possibilities was brutally taken out under state’s patronage. He was hanged on a tree just because his ideology differed from that of state sponsored goons."
"The present TMC govt in West Bengal has surpassed the violent legacy of Communist rule. Entire BJP mourns this tragic loss & stands firmly with Trilochan Mahato’s family in this hour of grief. His sacrifice for organisation & ideology will not go in vain," Shah wrote on Twitter.
President of Purulia district BJP, Vidyasagar Chakraborty, accused Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) of the alleged killing of the BJP supporter.
"TMC has started killing our activists as BJP scored very well in Purulia in recently concluded panchayat election," Chakraborty said.
Local leaders of TMC, however, denied all allegations against them.
Purulia SP, Joy Biswas, told IBNS, "Lodging a murder case, an investigation has been started into the matter."
"Political identity of the youth has not been established yet," Biswas said.
