West Bengal : CPI-M agitation outside Alipore court
On Friday evening, protesting against the death of two local youths during a clash between police and villagers over a power-grid installation at Bhangar in south Twentyfour Parganas district, a large number of CPI-M activists, led by MLA Sujan Chakraborty and party leaders Kanti Ganguly, Manab Mukherjee and Nepaldeb Bhattacharya, staged demonetisation outside the business summit venue and blocked the Parama Island crossing.
Terming the gathering unlawful, police booked 135 protesters, including CPI-M leaders Sujan Chakraborty, Kanti Ganguly, Manab Mukherjee and Nepaldeb Bhattacharya.
Of them, 23 took bail later at night from Kolkata Police headquarter at Lalbazar.
When the remaining 112 party activists were being produced in Alipore court on Saturday, hundreds of CPI-M supporters staged demonstration there.
They also blockade a nearby road, partly disrupting traffic in the area.
A heavy police force as deployed in the area.
However, the court has granted 'unconditional' bail to all the arrested leader-activists of the CPI-M, according to the latest update.
Few days ago, at least two youths, including a college student, were shot dead during a skirmish between local villagers and police force over the erection of a power grid at Bhangar.
