West Bengal delegation visits Germany

Berlin, Sept 6 (IBNS): A high powered official and business delegation from West Bengal, India led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is in Germany from Sept 5-9, 2016 to promote closer engagement and cooperation in various fields and explore trade and investment opportunities between the Germany and West Bengal.

Mamata Banerjee would be addressing an exclusive Interactive Session on Sept 7 in Munich and a series of interactions are being organised on the occasion of her visit.

The first of the interactive sessions, a seminar on “Business Opportunities in West Bengal” was organised by IHK Duesseldorf, Indo-German Chamber of Commerce, Government of West Bengal, Consulate General of India, Frankfurt and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) on Sept 5 at Hotel InterContinental, Duesseldorf.

The session was addressed by Amit Mitra, Minister-in-Charge, Finance, Excise, Commerce & Industries, Sovan Chatterjee, Hon’ble Mayor of Kolkata and Minister-in-Charge, Environment and Housing from Govt. of West Bengal.

From NRW Ministry, Günther Horzetzky, State Secretary, Ministry for Economic Affairs, Energy, Industry, SMEs and Crafts of the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia addressed the session.


From the Consulate general of India, Frankfurt, Raveesh Kumar, Consul General spoke an on the occasion.

Harshavardhan Neotia, President, FICCI and Chairman, Ambuja Neotia Group also addressed the session.

Gerhard Eschenbaum, Deputy Executive Director & Head of International Business Division, Düsseldorf Chamber of Commerce and Industry delivered the welcome address.

Dirk Matter, Managing Director, Indo-German Chamber of Commerce, Duesseldorf delivered the vote of thanks.

Günther Horzetzky, State Secretary, Ministry for Economic Affairs, Energy, Industry, SMEs and Crafts of the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia in his address said that a working group may be formed to take forward the discussions and chalk out a roadmap for closer engagement between the two regions of West Bengal and North Rhine Westphalia.

Sovan Chatterjee, Mayor of Kolkata and Minister-in-Charge, Environment and Housing, Fire and Emergency, Govt. of West Bengal in his address mentioned the several initiatives taken by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) for improvement and development of civic infrastructure, beautification of the city, making Kolkata become cleaner and greener. Hon’ble Minister also mentioned that a number of ease of doing business measures have been taken.


Amit Mitra, Industries and Finance Minister of West Bengal mentioned that the Govt. of West Bengal is organising the 3rd edition of Bengal Global Business Summit on Jan 20-21, 2017 in Kolkata.
