West Bengal: Trial begins in Burdwan blast case of 2014
During an in-camera trial in Bankshall Court, the then IC of Burdwan Police Station Abdul Gaffar identified three persons, including two women, held in connection with the blast case.
As Abdul Gaffar visited the scene first after the explosion was reported, his statement was recorded on the first day of hearing in the matter.
The Burdwan blast incident had taken place on Oct 2 in 2014 at Khagragarh area when the explosion in a house led to the killing of two bomb makers and discovery of a cache of arms and ammunition.
Few days later, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) took over probe in the matter and filed a charge sheet earlier in July before the special court, framing 30 accused under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and several Arms Act.
As many as 20 persons, including several women, have been arrested so far in connection with blast and all are in judicial custody.
A link with the Jamaat Ul Mujahideen Bangladesh was established in the course of investigation into the blast.
