Will never ally with BJP: Mamata Banerjee
Kolkata, May 4 (IBNS): After Rajnath Singh's effort to make peace with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee by promising big package for her state if the BJP comes to power, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief has ruled out any possibility of an alliance with the saffron party.
"The BJP says we have an understanding with the party. But we will never be in alliance with the BJP which wants to divide Bengal and try to send people here packing outside the country. What audacity, we can never be in any tie-up with them," Banerjee said while addressing an election rally at Shyambazar in north Kolkata.
This comes after BJP chief Rajnath Singh on Friday promised big package for West Bengal if his party forms government at the Centre.
"Mamataji fight out the Congress, don't fight with the BJP," Singh urged.
"I assure you that our government would be formed in Delhi. We will offer big package for the development of West Bengal and to remove poverty and unemployment," he said.
Earlier, BJP's PM nominee Narendra Modi in an election rally last week in West Bengal targetted Banerjee and alleged that her painting was purchased for an astronomical Rs 1.8 crore by the jailed owner of the tainted ponzi scheme company Saradha Group.
Modi also warned the Bangladeshi illegal migrants in West Bengal and said they would have to leave once his government is sworn in. His remarks are seen as inflammatory now and linked to the ethnic violence in Assam between the Bodos and Bengali speaking Muslims.
