Will return to campaign in 2-3 days in wheelchair: Mamata Banerjee's message to people

Kolkata/IBNS: Injured West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is undergoing a treatment in SSKM Hospital, Thursday said she would "manage" to return to political action within a few days but in a wheelchair.

Banerjee has also urged people to maintain peace.

In a video message, the Chief Minister lying on the hospital bed said, "I suffered massive injury yesterday and I have a bone injury. Yesterday, I had pain in my head and chest.

"I would appeal to all people to maintain peace and refrain from doing anything which would cause trouble to people.

"I will be able to return to my field within two-three days. Maybe, I would have issues in my leg but I will manage. I won't skip any meetings but maybe I would take the help of a wheelchair. I would seek all of your help."

Banerjee, who was in Nandigram to file her nomination for the state polls, Wednesday alleged she was the victim of an attack by four-five men, who have been linked to the BJP by the Trinamool.

However in her video message Thursday, Banerjee did not accuse the BJP of having any role in the incident.

The state's ruling party chief was brought to Kolkata on Wednesday night from Nandigram and admitted to the SSKM Hospital. Her left ankle has been plastered.

Contradicting the claims made by Banerjee's party, several eye-witnesses said the door of the Chief Minister's car, while she was standing and greeting common people, hit a pole and smashed back her leg.

"No one had attacked her," one eye-witness told news agency ANI.

A Trinamool delegation comprising Partha Chatterjee, Derek O'Brien, Chandrima Bhattacharya said there was a connection between some tweets of BJP lawmakers and the incident which occured in Birulia.

The Opposition, barring the Left, has said Banerjee was doing "drama" by alleging an attack.

Banerjee's injury has sparked widespread protests by Trinamool workers cutting across all districts in the state.
