Will work to strengthen India-Bhutan relation further: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar
New Delhi, June 7 (UNI): External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who will be on his maiden visit to Bhutan, has expressed hope that the bilateral relations between India and the Himalayan nation will be strengthened further.
"Thank you, Your Majesties. Eagerly look forward to visiting Bhutan again and continue working for further strengthening our unique bilateral partnership," the minister tweeted on Thursday evening.
Jaishankar will make a two-day visit to Bhutan from Friday.
"This is Dr Jaishankar’s first visit abroad as the External Affairs Minister and reflects the importance that India attaches to its bilateral relationship with Bhutan, a close friend and neighbour," an MEA statement said here.
During the visit, the External Affairs Minister is expected to have audience with Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the King of Bhutan and call on Lyonchhen Dr Lotay Tshering, Prime Minister of Bhutan.
Jaishankar, also a former foreign secretary will also meet his counterpart Lyonpo Dr Tandi Dorji, Foreign Minister of Bhutan.
India and Bhutan share a unique and time tested bilateral relationship, characterized by utmost trust, goodwill and mutual understanding, the statement said.
