Yogi Adityanath asks cops to spread awareness on road accidents instead of only issuing challans
Lucknow, Oct 16 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday said that a little awareness and strictness can help in preventing road accidents.
He said police must not make it their target to issue challan, and instead they should spread awareness among the people. The CM also ordered to seize the vehicles which are driving by drunken drivers and to cancel their licence.
He also asked to spread awareness among children at school level.
The Chief Minister was addressing a rally organised during the inauguration of road safety awareness week at his residence here on Wednesday.
He said that the efforts of the transport department have been fruitful and are showing positive results but there is still much to be done.
The CM said we must wear helmets while riding a two-wheeler and use seat belts for four-wheelers.
"Never drive under influence of any intoxication. We must follow the road safety and traffic rules. Such programmes cannot become successful without the contribution of the common people. If we move ahead with a good slogan on road safety, the results could be better," he said.
The CM said traffic education must be included in the curriculum which is the responsibility of the education department.
"It is the responsibility of the health department to ensure that the injured get proper treatment and they also get ambulances," he said.
The Chief Minister said that traffic police and cops must not terrorise people at intersections on the pretext of checking vehicles.
The CM also stressed on the establishment of new trauma centres. Around 25 traffic police bikers, 10 vintage cars, 100 bikers, 100 NCC cadets and 700 students from different schools participated in the rally.
