Youth stabbed to death in Guwahati, five arrested
Guwahati/IBNS: Assam police has arrested five persons for allegedly murdering a youth in Noonmati area of Guwahati on Friday.
The victim identified as Rituparna Pegu worked at a shop named Armaan Home Furnishing owned by one Armaan Ali.
According to reports, the 26-year-old youth was stabbed to death in broad daylight following a dispute over the possession of a chair, in which the workers of the shop sat.
According to sources, Rituparna worked in the shop before the lockdown period, but was removed by the owner after some disagreement. After the lockdown period, when the shops in the city opened, he approached the owner and resumed work some 10 days ago.
On Friday afternoon, Rituparna and Hussain Ali, an employee of the shop, got into a verbal altercation over the possession of the chair.
Things got heated and Rituparna slapped Hussain. To avenge the slap Hussain called his family members and they started beating Rituparna and Hussain pushed him and he fell on the road, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Debraj Upadhyay was quoted as saying by The Sentinel Digital.
In the CCTV footage the shop owner Arman Ali can be seen pacifying both the sides, Upadhyay added, the report said.
Hussain stabbed Rituparna in his back with what appeared to be a knife, said shop owner Arman Ali, The Sentinel Digital report stated.
The victim immediately collapsed on the roadside and the entire incident was captured on CCTV camera installed at the shop.
Later, police and some locals rushed Rituparna to hospital, but the doctors declared him brought dead.
Police arrested four persons-Dulal Ali, Ibrahim Ali, Manowara Khatun, Hussain Ali- on Friday evening on the basis of the CCTV footage. The owner of the shop, Arman Ali, was arrested on Saturday.
A case has been lodged against all the five accused at Noonmati police station under case number 294/2020 under section 147/148/149/302 of IPC.
Several people agitated in front of Noonmati police station and staged protests demanding justice for Rituparna Pegu.
