23rd India International Leather Fair opens in Kolkata

Kolkata, Feb 26 (IBNS): 23rd India International Leather Fair (IILF) and 2ND Tex-Styles India was inaugurated here at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre on Monday.

The 3-day fair has been organized by India Trade Promotion Organizatioon (ITPO) in association with Indian Leather Products Association (ILPA), Commerce and Industries Department, Government of West Bengal and Council for Leather Exports (CLE).

Buyers from 14 countries including Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Poland, Portugal, Scotland, Denmark, Japan etc. are participating in the fair. 70 Indian companies will also showcase their products. The fair was inaugurated by the State Finance Minister Shri Amit Mitra.

With its “Act East Policy”, Centre is giving main focus to the leather industry which is job-oriented and currently providing employment to around 5 lakh people in West Bengal, Mitra said.

He stated that India’s export stands at $8.25billion. Out of which West Bengal’s export share is $1 billion.

Efforts are being made to strengthen cooperation and increase trade with foreign countries including Italy and Germany to boost the leather sector in the state of West Bengal.    

Damiano Francovigh, Consul General, Italy; Michael Feiner, Consul General, Germany; Mukhtarul Amin, Chairman, Council for Leather Export (CLE); Deepak Kumar, Executive Director, ITPO; Adhar Sahni, President, ILPA; Ramesh Kumar, ED, CLE and Jayanta Das, SGM, ITPO were also present on the occasion.
