Guwahati: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Assam CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated 26 national highway projects worth Rs 17,500 crore in Guwahati.

The projects were unveiled at an event held at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati. Gadkari laid the foundation stones for various projects including the Tinsukia-Makum bypass and 2-laning projects in Bogapani to Golai Gaon and Golai Gaon to Ledo.

He also dedicated projects like the 4-laning of Kaliabor Tiniali – Dolabari road, the 4-laning of Dokmoka – Loring Thepi road, and others.

Sarma praised Gadkari for his focus on Assam's road infrastructure and noted that launching so many projects in a single day was unprecedented in the state's history.

He urged Gadkari to expedite the construction of a tunnel under the Brahmaputra and the 4-laning of the national highway section between Baihata Chariali to Tezpur.

The CM also requested Rs. 500 crore from the central fund for projects under the Asom Mala scheme, to which Gadkari announced an allocation of Rs. 600 crore, an increase of Rs. 100 crore over the requested amount.

Gadkari assured that the proposed elevated corridor in Kaziranga would soon become a reality and detailed project reports would be prepared.

The Union road transport minister also expressed commitment to the construction of the tunnel under the Brahmaputra.

The event was attended by Union Minister of State for Road Transport & Highways General (Retired) V.K. Singh, ministers from the Assam Cabinet, MPs, and officials from the Union Road Transport Ministry and the National Highway Authority of India.
