4,000 MW renewable energy power project being set up in Tamil Nadu

New Delhi: A new project has been approved under Green Energy Corridor Phase-II with the aim to set up 624 km of transmission lines and 2200 MVA capacity substations by the fiscal year 2025-26.

Union Minister for New & Renewable Energy and Power Pralhad Joshi gave this information in response to a written question in Rajya Sabha on August 1, 2023.

The purpose of this project is to evacuate renewable energy power of around 4000 MW capacity in Tamil Nadu, he said.

The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy has approved this project with an estimated cost of Rs 719.76 crore, and the central government will provide a grant of Rs. 237.52 crore, covering 33% of the project cost, according to the communication.

The project is currently being implemented by the state agency Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation Limited (TANTRANSCO).

Additionally, under Green Energy Corridor Phase-I, TANTRANSCO has successfully completed the sanctioned project, which includes 1068 km of transmission lines and 1910 MVA capacity substations, it added.

This project was completed on October 31, 2022, and the Ministry has already released a grant of Rs. 524.30 crore to TANTRANSCO for this phase.
