Kolkata/IBNS: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday said the Budget 2020 has laid the foundation for increasing consumption while creating a roadmap for infrastructure development leading to a 5 trillion economy by 2024-25.

While speaking to reporters in a post-budget discussion here, Sitharaman emphasized that the Budget ensured that the capital expenditure and government investments were used in building infrastructure assets which should deliver positive results in near future as well as in the long term.

She said a total of 16 points have been focussed on in the budget to fight rural distress to put the economy on the road to $ 5 trillion economy.

The minister said the Centre has taken steps for "macroeconomic stability, building assets in the country, money directly going to hands of individuals" instead of targeting individual states and added that announcements were made about several developmental projects going on in the different states.

She said the government wants continuous engagement with the business and industry stakeholders.
