EPFO extends deadline to January 31, 2025, for pending higher pension applications

New Delhi: The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has extended the deadline to January 31, 2025, for employers to upload wage details related to 3.1 lakh pending applications for higher pension benefits.

According to a statement by the Labour Ministry, an online facility was introduced by EPFO to submit applications for validating options or joint options for higher pensions, in line with the Supreme Court’s November 4, 2022, directive.

The facility, launched on February 26, 2023, was initially available until May 3, 2023.

In response to employee requests, the deadline was first extended to June 26, 2023, allowing four months for eligible pensioners and members to submit applications.

An additional 15-day window extended the final date to July 11, 2023, during which 17.49 lakh applications were received.

Employers were also granted multiple extensions to upload wage details, with deadlines revised to September 30, 2023, December 31, 2023, and May 31, 2024.

Despite these opportunities, over 3.1 lakh applications remain pending. Employers and their associations have continued to seek more time for processing these applications.

In response, the EPFO is providing a “final opportunity” for employers to process and upload the pending applications by January 31, 2025.

Additionally, employers are requested to respond or update information in 4.66 lakh cases, where EPFO has sought clarifications, by January 15, 2025.
