Bhubaneshwar: E-commerce company Flipkart's 'Phase I' warehouse at West Bengal's Haringhata has been certified with IGBC under the IGBC Green Logistics Parks and Warehouses Rating, according to a press release.

The facility has earned the highest IGBC certification level – Platinum - which recognizes global leadership.

On Tuesday, Sushil Mohta, Co-Chairman, IGBC Kolkata Chapter & Managing Director, Merlin Projects felicitated the project team of Flipkart involved in the certification process with IGBC Platinum rating plaque and certificate

The Platinum rated facility has many green features including 80 percent power generated through an on-site solar PV system, a pond with a rainwater harvesting capacity of 8,000 cu. m., electric powered material handling equipment and 80 percent reduction in interior & exterior Lighting Power Density (LPD), over baseline, the release said.

Flipkart’s adoption of the rating offers multi-fold benefits in the construction and operation of the facility and addresses national priorities such as the conservation of water, energy, materials, and resources and encouraging biodiversity.

Further, the intangible benefits accrued via enhanced Indoor Environmental Quality, improved Occupational Health and safety of the occupants and workers are immeasurable, the release stated.

The rating also addresses industry-specific concerns such as optimizing lead time and transport efficiency, reduction in fossil fuel use for commuting & transportation, handling of consumer waste, warehouse management, and overall supply chain management.

This has set a new benchmark for many logistic facilities and warehouses across the state to adopt green features and standards towards a sustainable tomorrow.
