India remains top recipient of remittances with $79 billion in 2018: World Bank
New Delhi, Apr 10 (IBNS): India has retained its position as the world's top recipient of remittances, a World Bank report has said.
According to the report, Indians abroad sent $79 billion back home in 2018.
China ($67 billion), Mexico ($36 billion), Philippines ($34 billion) and Egypt ($29 billion) came after India on the list.
World Bank said financial help sent to families in the flood-affected Kerala helped push up the inflow. “Remittances grew by more than 14% in India, where a flooding disaster in Kerala likely boosted the financial help that migrants sent to families,” it said.
In Pakistan, remittance grew by 7 per cent, considered moderate growth, the report added.
