Mumbai, Mar 13 (IBNS): Key Indian benchmark indices closed on a mixed note on Tuesday with BSE Sensex down 61.16 points at 33,856.78 but NSE Nifty up 5.50 points at 10,426.90.

Top gainers on Tuesday included BPCL, HPCL, Bharti Infratel, Idea Cellular, Sun Pharma, Dr Reddy's Labs, Wipro and Axis Bank while TCS, Kotak Mahindra, HCL Tech, NTPC, Maruti Suzuki and Coal India were some of the key stocks that declined.

In a major decision, the Supreme Court on Tuesday extended the deadline to link Unique Identification number indefinitely. The earlier deadline for linking the Aadhar was Mar 31.

The court said Aadhar will not be necessary to avail services like banking, cellphone connections and tatkal passport till a decision is taken on the issue.

The Supreme Court last year had ruled an extension of the deadline for Aadhaar-linking with mobile phones, bank accounts and government schemes till Mar 31, 2018.
