Indian Market: Sensex falls 68.36 points

Mumbai:  The BSE Sensex on Tuesday declined 68.36 pts to settle at 66,459.31 on profit booking by local operators.

The Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) eased 20.25 points to 19,733.55.

The Sensex opened at 66,532.98, rising by five points. It gained 131 points at 66,658.12 days high during the day.

Later, it tumbled down nearly 139 pts to 66,388.26, a day low, before closing at 66,459.31, sliding 68.36 pts from its previous close.

The stocks that dragged the market down were real estate, Capital goods, and industrial stocks.

Realty was a major loser, down by 1.78 percent, followed by Financial services by 0.48 percent, Capital Goods by 0.40 percent, and Industrials by 0.29 percent.

In scrips, Powergrid was a top loser, sliding by 5.11 pc to Rs 252.40, Bajaj Finserv by 1.60 pc to Rs 1572.80, Indusind Bank by 1.45 pc to Rs 1397, SBI by 1.27 pc to Rs 612.20, and Maruti Suzuki by 1.21 pc to Rs 9700.65.

The gainers were NTPC by 2.77 pc to Rs 224.50, Tech Mahindra by 2.31 pc to Rs 1141.40, HCL Technology by 1.96 pc to Rs 1138.90, and M&M by 1.02 pc to Rs 1491.

The midcap declined by 0.23 percent, while the small cap rose by 0.50 percent.

In 30 scrips, 14 advanced, 15 slipped, and one remained unchanged.
