New Delhi, Feb 12 (IBNS):  India's retail inflation touched 2.05 percent in January 2019 compared with a revised 2.11 percent in December 2018, as per government data released on Tuesday.

The country's  Consumer food price index stood at (-)2.17 percent in January.

Provisional indices for the month of January 2019 and also the final indices for December 2018 are being released with this note for all-India and for State/UTs.

The fall in food prices and smaller increases in fuel costs could be cited as the reason behind the decline of the numbers.

"Price data are collected from selected towns and selected villages by the Field Operations Division of NSSO. Price data are received through web portals, maintained by the National Informatics Centre," read a government statement.
