New Delhi: India’s overall July coal production registered a 14.11% surge, reaching 68.75 Million Tonne (MT), compared to 60.25 MT in the corresponding period in last year, according to the Ministry of Coal.

The production of Coal India Limited (CIL) increased to 53.63 MT in the month of July 2023 as compared to 47.29 MT in July 2022 with a growth of 13.41%, the ministry said.

As per provisional data, the cumulative coal production, up to July 23, has seen a quantum jump of 292.12 MT in F 23-24 as compared to 265.94 MT during the same period in FY 22-23 with a growth of 9.84%.

Additionally, Coal dispatch witnessed a significant boost in July 2023, reaching an impressive 74.33 MT, showcasing notable progress compared to the 67.46 MT recorded on July 22, with a growth rate of 10.19%, the ministry said.

At the same time, Coal dispatch by captive and others recorded production of 11.48 MT during the month, compared to 9.74 MT in July 2022, representing a growth of 17.83%.

Up to July 2023, the cumulative coal dispatch saw a significant jump of 314.30 MT, up 7.79% as compared to 291.59 MT during the same period in FY23.

This highlights the efficiency of the coal supply chain in ensuring the smooth distribution of coal across the country.

“Ministry of Coal is committed to ensuring consistent coal production and dispatch during monsoon season and has implemented a range of strategies to safeguard mining operations and enhance operational efficiency,” the ministry said in a statement.

The coal sector has seen an unprecedented upswing as coal production, dispatch, and stock position reached remarkable heights, it added.

“The relentless dedication of Coal PSUs has been instrumental in driving extraordinary growth. The Ministry of coal remains committed to collaborated efforts, technological advancement and sustainable practices to ensure a reliable and resilient energy sector,” said the statement.
