Kolhapur/UNI: The gold traders association here on Monday observed day-long strike so as to protest the Centre's new jewellery hallmarking rules.

Under the banner of the Kolhapur Saraf Trader Association, the city traders gathered in the Gujari lane and expressed discontentment with the new Hallmarking Unique ID system.

Reacting on the matter, Association president Kuldeep Gaikwad termed the new rules as ''oppressive'' and demanded their withdrawal.

Similar voices of concern are being raised by the golden traders across the country.
