Bhubaneswar: Manganese ore mining from Bolani Ore Mines has resumed with the mines fulfilling all the requisite compliances.

The mining under the Odisha Group of Mines of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) was discontinued in 1977 due to various reasons including changes in the policies of the Odisha government and the Government of India as well as orders of the Supreme Court.

Executive Director (Mines) RSP Alok Verma flagged off the first rake carrying 1200 Tons of Manganese ore which was dispatched from Bolani to Rourkela Steel Plant on Wednesday.

CGM (Mines) Bolani Joydev Chattopadhyay along with all other senior officials of the mines were present on the occasion.

While appreciating the efforts made by Bolani Ore Mines, Verma, expressed his gratitude for the help and guidance extended by the Odisha government authorities in resumption of Manganese ore Mining from Bolani Ores Mines.

It is worth mentioning here that Manganese is present in sporadic pockets in the area allotted to the Bolani Mines.

Currently, there are 11 quarries in the leased area and the present production is being carried out from quarry no-10.

The Manganese mined from Bolani will be mostly consumed by Chandrapur Ferro Alloy Plant (CFP) while the Integrated Steel Plants will use it as per requirement.
