Lucknow, July 13 (IBNS) : Ola, India’s most popular mobile app for transportation, on Wednesday announced the launch of electric-rickshaws (popularly known as E-Rickshaws), on its app in Lucknow.

With this launch, Lucknow becomes the second city in India to get E-Rickshaws on the Ola app, after Delhi-NCR, where it was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, in April 2016.

Ola is addressing last-mile connectivity by enabling reliable mobility in one of the fastest growing metros in India and the largest city in Uttar Pradesh. The company plans to onboard more than 300 E-Rickshaws over the next 3 months.

Sundeep Sahni, Vice President, New initiatives at Ola said, “At Ola, we are constantly building mobility solutions to suit the unique needs of Indians. At the same time, we are enabling hundreds of thousands of men and women take their first step towards entrepreneurship. The launch of E-Rickshaws on the Ola app follows the Company’s MoU with the Govt of Uttar Pradesh to introduce innovative commute options for citizens across the state.”

Sundeep further added, “We are using cutting edge technology to upgrade cycle rickshaw peddlers as skilled e-rickshaw driver-entrepreneurs by introducing smart mobility solutions like E-rickshaws, that are not only affordable and environment friendly; but also add to the larger mobility ecosystem for the convenience of citizens. We are excited to bring innovative solutions to fast growing cities like Lucknow, in line with our mission to build mobility for a billion Indians.”

Sant Ram, the first E-Rickshaw driver on the Ola platform in Lucknow said, “It is wonderful how technology can bring a cab, Auto and even an E-Rickshaw to the customer’s location within minutes. I am thrilled about joining the Ola platform. With the training that I have received in the last few days, I am confident of serving my customers better and also increasing my daily earnings.”
