PM Modi meets top CEOs of energy companies in Houston; witnesses signing of MoU between Petronet and Tellurian

Houston: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the CEOs of the energy sector in the US on the first day of his week-long visit to the country, and later witnessed the signing of MoU between India’s Petronet and Houston-based Tellurian.

 

The round table with the top energy companies was the first engagement of the Prime Minister, after he stepped in US on Saturday.

The meeting at Hotel Post Oak was attended by the CEOs of Baker Hughes, Dominion Energy, Cheniere Energy, Emerson Electric Company, Perot Group and Hillwood, IHS Markit, ExxonMobil,  LyondellBasell Industries, McDermott, Tellurian, Total, Schlumberger, Air Products, Westlake Chemicals and Vinmar International.

After the meeting, Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted that the meeting was “fruitful”.

"Getting straight to business. PM @narendramodi just concluded a fruitful interaction with top energy sector CEOs at a Roundtable meeting in #Houston. Discussion focused on working together for energy security and expanding mutual investment opportunities between India & US," he wrote.

India's Petronet LNG Limited signed MoUs with Houston based Tellurian  for importing  5mtpa of LNG from Tellurian's subsidiary Driftwood along with equity investment, subject to due diligence and consent of its board of directors.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, after the round table.

The Prime Minister tweeted:" It is impossible to come to Houston and not talk energy! Had a wonderful interaction with leading energy sector CEOs. We discussed methods to harness opportunities in the energy sector. Also witnessed the signing of MoU between Tellurian and Petronet LNG.”

Tellurian and Petronet intend to conclude transaction agreements by Mar 31, 2020, the two companies said.

The Prime Minister will address the biggest gathering ever of over 50,000 Indian-Americans at 'Howdy Modi' at NRG stadium here on Sunday.
